A client of our firm was charged with simple assault against her child. Acknowledging that she was guilty of the offence, the client in question was granted a discharge subject to compliance with certain conditions for a specified period. Although it’s rare that such a measure is granted in cases of crimes committed against a minor, the context of this case – in particular, taking responsibility for the problem that caused the wrongful act – led the court to agree that the absence of a conviction here would not go against the public interest.
