The Canadian Victims Bill of Rights went into effect on July 22nd, 2015. This law substantially alters and henceforth officially protects the rights of victims of a crime in Canada.
VICTIMS OF A CRIME HAVE A RIGHT TO RESTITUTION.
OUR ATTORNEYS CAN HELP THEM GET IT.
In addition to enshrining several other laws, the Canadian Victims Bill of Rights above all provides for a procedure including a hearing for the victim relating to the question of damages suffered. This hearing allows the victim to demonstrate the injury they sustained, and this evidence may be considered.
In a criminal proceeding, the Court now has the power to issue restitution orders against the offender which are enforceable by a civil court.
